The Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum has a collection of over 8,000 items including fine art, furniture, books, manuscripts and archive material relating to Johnson and his time, as well as the history of Lichfield. Our libraries include many early and association copies of works by Johnson and his circle. We hope that you enjoy exploring our collection. Please see our tips for searching to help you get started.
Our collection database was built with years of work, much of it by our dedicated volunteers. It is a working tool for the Museum and will be regularly updated. The whole collection is included here already, but images and additional information will regularly appear. If you need any help using our catalogue, or if you spot any errors, then please get in touch with us at sjmuseum@lichfield.gov.uk. Please visit our main website for information on making an appointment to use the collections.
